day 30

today we went over emergency preparedness for clinic. We talked about where to find the oxygen and how to administer it to patitents. We also talked about some of the signs to tell syncope and how to treat a pt who may be having troubles with it. Well, we see our first real pt next time, I hope Nate is nice to me, and I hope things will go fairly smoothly.

29th day

Today was our mock, mock patient day. It was really stressful getting prepared for it, but I think I did really well, for the first time. I got a passing grade which is pretty dang awesome, so I am feeling slightly better about next week when we have a real pt.

Today I passed off my sharpening PE, which was just fine, except for some reason I wasn't thinking right, and couldn't pick up a curet to show Costley, so she laughed at me. I know what a curet is, I just was nervous and kept picking up the wrong one. Oh well.

26th day

Today we learned about the pSR probing, which is slightly different than the regular probing. I guess on our real pt. we have to do both in 2 weeks. I am really nervous about this whole thing, I don't feel ready at all, but I guess I will just give it a good try.

25th day

Today I passed off my air powder polish pe, and learned how to do sealants. It was a stressful day, trying to get so many things done and doing a good job at them. I am glad this day is over.

24th day

Today we practiced doing air powder polishing and it was fun to work with, but it tastes so incredibly nasty. I am going to struggle having to put other people through that when I know how bad it is myself. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't spearmint flavor. Soooooo Nasty !!!

Anyway, I passed off the posterior PE, and it turned out okay.

Next time I think it is polishing.

Day 23

Today we learned about how to use the ultra sonic, and we got to practice on the dexters which was very fun. We also learned about how to sharpen our instruments, which is more confusing than you would think it would be, but I am glad I know how, it will help me to practice and sharpen in the future.o

20th day

I don't know what happened to my other blog, because I did do it. I have never missed a day. But anyway here goes again, on Mon. I was in the pod by myself, because everyone else was in another pod., so I was a bit lonely. I passed off my anterior PE, but I would feel a little more comfortable with it when I can practice some more. Next time we will be doing selective polishing, and I will get to practice that.

21 day of clinic

Today we worked on selective polishing, floshing and flouride application. It was fun, and I really liked today. I felt better because I knew a little more what I was doing, and it was easier, and a lot more fun. Today I also passed off the Intra-oral camera PE, which was pretty easy. I would like to work on my scaling a little better however.

19th day

Yeah! I passed off 2 PE's today. That makes me feel a lot better to get those done. I am still having a little difficulty deciphering bewteeen the universal and area-specific. I know the exact properties of each, its just holding up the instrument and actually picking it out.

Today we practiced posterior scaling with the curet. It was pretty interesting. I realized that the terminal shank has to change with the ling angle of the tooth, meaning I need to change the terminal shank and treat the tooth like a candy corn.

I think I will take some intstruments home to practice some more to make sure I have it down.

18th day

Today was pretty good I guess for a Monday. We worked on our scaling some more today so we could practice and feel better about scaling the anterior teeth. I feel fairly good about it, I am just having some problems rolling my instrument the right amount. I think that I will need to practice this some more, like I did the explorer so that I can feel better about my skills. I hope that everything in my head will stick, because I feel like I have a ton to remember.

17 th day

So today was the ALL IMPORTANT DAY!!!

TODAY WAS THE DAY WE GOT TO HOLD A SCALER IN OUR HANDS AND ACTUALLY USE IT a little!!!!

It was pretty fun, but totally different than holding the explorer and using it subgingivally. I was able to go slightly under the gums, but not too far, because we used the nebraska, and you can't go very far subgingivally with it, like you can with a lot of other scalers, and the probe.

I passed off the probe today, and it was slightly nerve wracking, because after using the scaler, I had a very tight grip on the instrument in order to use it, and so it interfered with using the probe. I had to remember to slow down, calm down, and relax.

16th day

Today we covered a lot of what it will really be like to start from the begining to get to somewhat of the middle. I passed off the exploration PE, and next time I hope to pass off the probing PE, I think it will work out pretty good. We learned about a lot of the instruments we have in our issue, and some of the differences between the shank, and complexity. I am hoping everything will go well for next time!

13th

13 is usually an unlucky number, but today it was okay. We passed off our intraoral pe, then we practiced charting gingival tissues, and existing restorations, etc. It was a pretty easy-going day. We also went over the things we need to know for the Eaglesoft pe, to refresh some of that in our heads.

There definetly is a ton to remember. I hope I can remember it all!!! :)

12th day

We practiced working on probing today, and it was a lot easier today than it was on Monday. I really wish I could practice even more, so I feel more confident. I know I need to practice exploring a lot more, so I will hopefully I will find some time to do that.
gottsta go so I can chart.

11th clinic day

So we learned how to probe today, and it was fun. It seemed a lot easier to do than exploring was, so I will have to practice using the explorer a little more. I did enjoy probing a little more, it seemed to come a little easier than exploring did. I just hope I didn't harm my lab partner too much.

I passed off the fulcrum PE, and I need to remember to stay up on my fulcrum more I think, I have a hard time remembering to keep it lateral along with the tooth. I think that I make things harder than they are because I get so nervous, so if I calm down a little, I will be fine. I HOPE!

10th day

Today in clinic we practiced using the explorer w/ the typodont, and then later with our pod partner. Today I did not have time to pass of any PE's. We just practiced and worked on making sure the toe is to the tooth, so that you don't poke your patient's gums. It is really hard because I have a hard time relaxing, and therefore relaxing my grip on the instruments I am using. I need to work on perfecting my technique so that I can get it right.

9th Clinic Day

HOWDY-

This is going to be the week of all weeks, with 3 tests still to do, I am going to be very busy, I hope I can get enough done that I can feel good and ready to take my tests. I finished my vital signs PE, so I will have to study up on the next ones to get more done sooner. I definitely will have to study some of the new ones.

8th day clinic

So I passed off the hhx pe. It wasn't too painful! :) I am glad its over now. I am counting down each pe as I get done with them so I can feel like I am making progress. I think everything is going pretty good. I am excited to finally start looking in the mouth, like we did today. It is crazy how many people's mouths can be so different, but yet close to the same.
Well gottsta go!

7th day

In clinic today we learned about the extra-oral exam. It was kind of hard to tell what I was looking for. I guess we need to see what it normal in order to know what is abnormal. So I should recognize somthing abnormal when it is there. I will hopefully get the hx done next time, but I have to go now.

day 6

Today we went over the blood pressure measurements. I also passed off the positioning PE, like I hoped I could. I am somewhat getting used to things now, but there is still so much to remember, I hope I can fit it all in my head. Next time I would like to pass off the next PE, but I don't know what it is yet, so I will have to look over it for the weekend. I feel like I am doing pretty good in clinic so far, I just hope I can continue to do well.

Is this the 5th day of clinic? Today was pretty good. I made a goal today to pass off the set up and take down for my PE's today. I did really good today. I am glad to be done with them so I can make more room for more information, (not like I can really forget it all anyway). Next time in clinic I would like to pass off the positions, so that I still have those in my head. I am getting used to clinic now, and I like doing all of the activities. I just hope I am retaining all of the information I am stuffing into my head.

3rd day clinic

So today I wanted to pass off the take down PE, and I was totally ready, but the instructor told our pod we should do the take down and set up at the same time, so that is what I will do next time.
Clinic was pretty good today. I learned all about the Eagle soft computer to set up and notate for each pt. the procedures that you accomplish for the day etc.

Next time I want to pass off the set up and take down for sure.

2nd day clinic

So I made a goal today to pass off my first PE, it scared me to death, so I thought I would just get it done and over really fast like a band aide. It went better than I thought, and I feel a lot better now.
I am still figuring things out as far as school is going, I'm still trying to organize everything. I am feeling a lot better about things now.

We talked about the clock positions as far as cleaning the teeth, and it is slightly confusing but I think I can figure it out.

first day of Hygiene

I am tired!!! I have been yawning all day long.

Today my goal was to make it through the day, and I am almost there. One goal down, 25 more to go. Today I went to Radiology and learned a lot about Dxxtr, and I went to clinic later on and learned about how to set up the chair and clean traps and take barriers off the chair. A lot of this stuff I have done before, but there is a ton of barriers to use. I can't believe the amount of things to remember already, but I'll get there I'm sure! Well Gottsta go!
